Data note

Waste indicators may differ between sources because of differences in definitions, reporting methodologies, treatment categories and reference years.

Municipal waste is a specific category of waste and should not be confused with total solid waste. Total waste generation in Malta is heavily influenced by construction and demolition waste, which represents a large proportion of the country's overall waste generation.

Recycling rates are calculated using specific Eurostat methodologies and should not be derived directly from the percentage of treated waste that is recycled.
