Friends of the Earth Malta
Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) is an environmental organisation working to promote ecological sustainability, social justice, and environmental protection across the Maltese Islands.
What they do
Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) is an independent environmental organisation working across the Maltese Islands to promote ecological sustainability, social justice, and community-led action. As part of the global Friends of the Earth International network and Zero Waste Europe, the organisation engages citizens through campaigns, education, and practical initiatives to protect Malta's natural environment and build a resilient future.
Operating across four main pillars - climate and energy, food and biodiversity, resource use and zero waste, and environmental education and activism - FoEM drives impactful advocacy through key areas including:
-
Climate & Energy: Pushing for a fossil-free Malta, raising renewable energy shares through community-owned projects, and advocating for genuine energy justice.
-
Sustainable Mobility: Tackling transport emissions by championing safe walking, cycling, reliable public transport, and human-powered travel alternatives.
-
Climate Justice, Awareness & Education: Addressing the social dimensions of climate change, mitigating climate anxiety, amplifying youth involvement, and promoting climate-resilient practices.
-
Advocacy & Engagement: Combining public campaigns, community projects, and educational initiatives to empower citizens to take part in creating a fairer society.
